O débito cardíaco (DC) é uma das principais medidas da função cardiovascular, refletindo o volume de sangue bombeado pelo coração por minuto. A avaliação precisa desse parâmetro é fundamental em diversos contextos clínicos, especialmente em pacientes críticos, com insuficiência cardíaca ou em pós-operatório de cirurgias cardíacas.
A Fórmula de Fick é uma das formas clássicas e mais utilizadas para estimar o débito cardíaco de maneira indireta, com base no consumo de oxigênio (VO₂) e na diferença arteriovenosa de oxigênio (SaO₂ – SvO₂). Apesar de sua origem fisiológica e do uso inicialmente invasivo, hoje a fórmula pode ser aplicada de forma simplificada com estimativas práticas, permitindo uma avaliação útil à beira do leito.
Além do débito cardíaco, a fórmula também possibilita o cálculo de outros parâmetros clínicos relevantes, como o índice cardíaco (CI) — que ajusta o débito à superfície corporal — e o volume sistólico (SV), que representa a quantidade de sangue ejetada em cada batimento cardíaco.
